I was thinking about it, but the truth is - I don't think it will pass the test.
Sure, it has the capability to, but unless Ian Hickson or someone else from the Web Standards Project adds in the trigger to engage the IE8 'Standards Mode' - It will fail just like IE7 does.

Interesting article. I'd like to point out that also IE8 passes the acid2 test (you should add it to your article for correctness)
